popular fashion blogger prerna mehra gives tips on how to style your old festive wear to look like brand new this season

Every year we buy so many new clothes during the festive season. But these clothes never see the light of the day after we’ve worn them once. Come on, you know that’s true! However, this year we are all about repeating our old clothes. You don’t necessarily have to repeat an outfit as it is. But you can break it down and pair it with different pieces and create a whole new look altogether! So, we got in touch with entrepreneur and fashion blogger Prerna Mehra also known as thegirlinskyhighheels. Prerna, who also has her own label of Indian wear, loves to play around and experiment with her traditional looks, especially during the festive season. So we got in touch with her to give us some tips for us to nail our festive looks this year!

1. A Heavy Dupatta

A heavy dupatta has the power to transform a simple outfit into a more festive look. I like to pair my heavy dupattas with a plain white Anarkali or a plain white lehenga and white choli and big Jhumkas. Classic is always a winner!

2. A heavy lehenga skirt

There are many ways to style a heavy lehenga. You could wear it was a cropped top or a corset rather than a regular choli or blouse. However, one of the most innovative ways I’ve ever styled a heavy lehenga skirt from my own label is by wearing it as a tube dress!

3. A heavy blouse/choli

A heavy blouse/choli is one of those things that can literally be styled with almost anything. I’d style mine with a pair of trousers, I think this is a very cool look. You could also pair it with a plain georgette or chiffon saree. Or even organza would work.

4. Benarasi, Chanderi Silk, Kanjivaram or Other Classic Silk Sarees

Some things are best worn in the way they are supposed to be worn. I like to keep it classic so I’d wear a Benarasi, Chanderi or Kanjivaram Silk saree with some traditional jewellery, a bindi and some heirloom Kadas. With so many new trends and styles coming up, nothing says elegant better than a simple traditional look!

5. A pair of heavy Chandbalis & Jhumkis

Chandbalis and Jhumkis can literally be worn with anything and everything! A pantsuit, a formal black dress and pretty much anything else! These are my favourite accessories especially if they are Kundan!

6. Sharara pants

Sharara pants have been really popular lately. I like to style my Sharara pants with a wrap shirt kurta. They also look great with a bustier and a jacket.

7. Dhoti pants

I have been loving Dhoti pants lately. You can wear them casually for everyday wear and also style them for a more formal occasion. I wear mine with a T-shirt, a shirt and a Kothi (Indian waistcoat), with a short kurta, with even a crop top!

8. Heavy choker necklace

Another one of my favourites when it comes to accessories, I wear chokers with everything, especially if it’s Kundan or Jadau. The outfit could be Indian or Western or Indo-western! But it looks best with a deep blouse and lehenga, or a pantsuit, or a dress that has a deeper neck, like an off-shoulder or a tube dress.

Okay, ladies, we hope you are ready to slay it with your ethnic look this Diwali season!
